MERILYN GENTRY
Ms. Gentry has over twenty years' experience in the field of
environmental data management. Through her associations with the
University of Tennessee, the Science Applications International
Corporation, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), she has
provided support to numerous environmental research projects conducted
by almost as many U.S. government agencies: National Aeronautics and
Space Administration, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection
Agency, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Ms. Gentry is Data Coordinator for the LBA-ECO Project, NASA's component
of the Brazilian-led Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in
Amazonia (LBA). She was part of the original team who designed,
developed, and implemented the LBA Metadata Search and Data Retrieval
system now known as Beija-flor. Current responsibilities include
general support to the science team in meeting their data-related
obligations; ensuring LBA-ECO science team compliance with LBA data
policy; coordination and communication with LBA DIS; and support in the
registration of LBA-ECO data, metadata QA, and preparation of data
packages for archive.
Prior to the LBA project, Ms. Gentry provided data management support
for the:
- BOREAS (Boreal Ecosystem-Atmosphere Study) Project: NASA /
Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC),
- FIFE (First ISLSCP (International Satellite Land Surface
Climatology Project) Field Experiment) Project: NASA / GSFC,
- Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Distributed Active Archive
Center (DAAC): NASA's long-term archive for biogeochemical sciences
data,
- ORNL's Remedial Action Program: part of the U.S. Department of
Energy's Environmental Restoration Program at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and
- Environmental Protection Agency's Western Lake Survey.
Ms. Gentry began her data and information management career in 1980
providing information management services as a private consultant to the
Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards, an advisory group to the U.S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Ms. Gentry is a Senior Research Associate with the Systems Development
Institute of the University of Tennessee. She has a Bachelor of Science
degree from Mississippi State University.
