GUSTAVO V. NECCO

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, graduated in Meteorological Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires, in 1968. He further acquired a D. Sc. (Meteorology) from the University of Paris VI, France, in 1972. He joined the Argentinean Meteorological Service in 1962, heading its Synoptic Research Institute from 1976 to 1985 where he was in charge of the implementation of numerical weather forecasting activities.. He was involved in research from 1970 to 1972 at the French EOLE project, Laboratoire de Meteorologie Dynamique, ENS/CNRS, Paris, and from 1981 to 1982 as a visiting scientist at the NMC Development Division, Washington DC, USA. In addition, from 1973 to 1985 he was at the Department of Meteorology, University of Buenos Aires, as an active faculty member, in the area of geophysical fluid dynamics. Since 1985 till 2002 he has served as Director of the Education and Training Department of the World Meteorological Organization. In November 2002 he was appointed Director of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI).
