The workshop goal is to provide an international and interdisciplinary forum to promote a deeper understanding of and requirements for long-term preservation, open access, and improved use of digital scientific information resources for sustainable development in Latin America.

The workshop has four primary objectives:

  1. Review and discuss the current status of practices for providing open availability of and permanent access to scientific information resources.
  2. Identify and discuss the scientific, legal and policy, institutional and economic, and management and technical factors relevant to permanent access to digital scientific information resources.
  3. Identify follow-up activities that can be taken toward improving permanent access for the major type of digital scientific information resources
  4. Provide a networking opportunity for future collaborative activities for workshop speakers and attendees across discipline, institutional, and national boundaries
