The workshop goal is to provide an international and interdisciplinary forum to promote a deeper understanding of and requirements for long-term preservation, open access, and improved use of digital scientific information resources for sustainable development in Latin America. The workshop has four primary objectives:
- Review and discuss the current status of practices for providing open availability of and permanent access to scientific information resources.
- Identify and discuss the scientific, legal and policy, institutional and economic, and management and technical factors relevant to permanent access to digital scientific information resources.
- Identify follow-up activities that can be taken toward improving permanent access for the major type of digital scientific information resources
- Provide a networking opportunity for future collaborative activities for workshop speakers and attendees across discipline, institutional, and national boundaries
